“We seem unable to Marshall an appropriate response to the dangers that lie ahead”
Building AI comes with the challenge of not losing control over it. It seems unlikely that we can successfully build AI without facing this challenge. The slightest difference between the goals of machines and our own can cause problems. Intelligence is created through information processing, and we will continue to improve our machines. However, we are still far from achieving the highest level of intelligence possible. Some people fear the idea of machines becoming more intelligent than humans.
AI refers to the ability of machines to simulate human intelligence. Although the human brain simply gathers data, machines can do it much faster. There are many benefits to AI, such as increased efficiency in medicine and research. However, there are also disadvantages, such as the creation of deepfakes.
Printers have become highly sophisticated, to the point that one has even built a metal bridge while simultaneously moving across it. The concept of the Star Trek replicator has become ever closer to reality with the advent of 3D printing. Rather than assembling items from various bits, 3D printing can create a whole item in one go. The medical applications of 3D printing are endless, and it can be integrated into work as a tool, much like AI.
However, the question arises whether 3D printing will stop us from making anything at all. The development of 4D printing, which involves adding memory to a product to shape and build itself, has opened up new possibilities for the future. It remains to be seen how this will affect creativity and artists in the future, as well as the role of NFTs.
Despite our efforts, we may not have full control over AI. What happens if machines become too intelligent to be turned off? We must consider the unintended consequences of AI, such as the creation of false identities.
Therefore, the political implications of the race to build AI are also worth considering. Can we build AI without losing control over it? It seems unlikely, but we must strive to find ways to ensure that AI is beneficial to society and doesn't cause harm.
