Once I collected some imagery, I shared this with my tutor and peers for some feedback.
What I gathered from these conversation was that I need to clarify my message to avoid any confusion about whether I am discussing. Am I commenting on culture in general or focusing specifically on the art world? Is the message intentionally overwhelming, or is it more centered on the banana's role in the art world? I should test it with an audience. If it's overwhelming, it might be a confusing series of images rather than a focused piece of work.
I need to make it more intentional - am I questioning the art world, as an artist within the art world, or is it broader in scope? Where else do bananas fit into the world?
I realised I could use this video of David Datuna eating 'The Comedian' as a pivotal point within my narrative, using editing techniques to create a 'near miss' for my stretchy banana, while he is trying to recreate this artwork. I found this performance piece especially exciting when it happened, as it gave a whole new perspective to the artwork, further bolstering the ideas behind the original piece. The Comedian is an idea, not the banana itself.
