During our second week, we visited the galleries at Exeter Phoenix, and explored the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery.
At the Phoenix, we were fortunate to have a guided tour by the curator of the current exhibition, Matt Burrows. He explained that the exhibition was the result of an open call for contemporary artists. It was inspiring to see such work displayed locally. Matt talked to us about his methods of curation and the ways in which the pieces were selected and displayed.
My favourite pieces were by Tom Woolner, who uses silicon and pigments to create beautiful and somewhat silly artworks. I will be further researching his methods to try this myself.
At the RAMM, we were shown around the latest exhibition, Hollow Earth, and tasked with picking some interesting objects which could be studied further from their vast collection.
